ACN & ABN Usage
In this age of increased corporate governance
regulations, an area that can be easily overlooked is where your
Australian Company Number (ACN) or Australian Business Number (ABN)
should be utilized. By law either of these numbers, depending upon
which one the company has, should appear on all of its public
documents and eligible negotiable instruments. This includes:
-
All documents required to be lodged with ASIC.
-
Statements of accounts and invoices.
-
Any receipts which are not machine produced.
-
Orders for goods and services.
-
Business letterheads and business cards.
-
Official company notices.
-
Cheques, promissory notes and bills of exchange.
-
Written advertisements making a specific offer
which is capable of being accepted.
It is a good idea to include it in all advertising,
marketing, web sites and brochures.

you may use the ABN with your company's name in place of the ACN,
provided that your ABN includes your nine ACN number.
