The west elevation is very visible from Swanston Street and will be comprised of storey-height, timber louvres – operated by a system of hydraulic levers – that will follow the sun in order to prevent solar gain from the western (afternoon?) sun while maintaining views of the city.
When closed, CH2 will resemble a ten storey by 22m wide timber box. When open at night and in the mornings, the opening box will reveal itself.
It is a façade that responds to nature.
