Roof Garden
One new, self-imposed planning regulation for CH2 was that the area of the building’s footprint should be replaced with the same area of leaves or other photosynthetic material. Therefore the sides of the breakout balconies along the north side are hung with vines and the deck space on the roof top covered with a pergola supporting hanging vines.
Light shelves deflect light further into the space on the north and internal screens are available to reduce glare which is dealt with specially designed from-the-bottom-up internal blinds. We call this ‘sunlight harvesting’.
The south facing windows have the difficult task of glare and heat gain from reflected light. All window glass is low ‘E’ glass in double glazed units to mitigate this problem.
